This 8-Step Fat Quarter Bundle includes eight half yard cuts, each measuring approximately 18" x 44", in a curated vintage color "family". (Add on four additional colors within the Sketchbook Fat Quarter Bundle, available separately.)

Cherrywood Fabrics has been hand-dyeing fabric for over 35 years, and has perfected the rich, suede look of this gorgeous fabric.

Cherrywood fabric can be used in quilts, garments, home decorating, and anywhere else you want a solid color that doesn't just lie flat.

This fabric has been washed twice/preshrunk, and rinsed twice in hot water with Synthrapol Detergent — a concentrated detergent that removes excess dye.

Each 8-Step Half-Yard Bundle includes eight half yard cuts, each measuring approximately 18" x 44", in a curated vintage color "family": Rust, Mango, Goldenrod, Caramel, Sepia, Lizard, Misty Aqua, and Jade.

100% cotton that is dyed to look like suede.

Care: Cherrywood Fabrics recommends pre-washing Cherrywood Fabric at home with Synthrapol Detergent in warm or cold water.

CHERRYWOOD FABRICS CHALLENGE:

Create an original quilted piece with a LIMITED COLOR PALETTE of hand dyed fabric from Cherrywood

This challenge is about paying tribute to the classic children’s books that have been handed down from generation to generation. Use this vintage color palette to create your little story. 

The cover of your favorite children’s book may be worn and faded, but the feeling you get when you read the words is close to the surface. We challenge you to use those nostalgic feelings to create an original story-time experience. You are encouraged to take inspiration from and transform original artwork into your own design. Please no licensed characters. We will select quilts based on originality, creativity, design, impact, workmanship, use of fabric and overall variety of the exhibit.

Your quilt design must be your original work. You are encouraged to take inspiration from and transform original artwork into your own design. Please no licensed characters. Attribution to the original artist must be included in the artist's statement. There will be a place on the submission form for this. No quilts using copyrighted or licensed images may be sold. There is no financial remuneration for participation in the Cherrywood Challenge.

If you are concerned about copyright, remember that many beloved children's books are in the public domain, meaning their copyrights have expired. Anything published before 1923 is in the Public Domain.

• SIZE
Finished measurements must be 20 inches square. The visual impact of the exhibit is based on continuity, so we require this exact size.

• COLOR
Your entry must use ONLY the eight colors of fabric in the official Challenge Bundle. The OPTIONAL pack (Sketchbook) of four neutral colors may be added, but is not required. If you use paint/ink/pencil in your piece, challenge yourself to keep it in the same general color family. Thread may be any color

• FABRIC
The entire quilt top and binding must be made out of the Cherrywood Challenge Bundle. No other brand of fabric may be used on the front. You may use any backing fabric you like. This challenge is about using your talents to show off the suede texture and color of  Cherrywood. 

• TECHNIQUES
Any technique is allowed: hand or machine-quilting, thread painting, embroidery, couching, beading, manipulating, drawing, etc! If you use paint/ink, it should be used sparingly so as not to camouflage the fabric. This is not a painting challenge; we must be able to recognize the Cherrywood fabrics. The piece must maintain the character of a textile quilt and consist of a top, a middle batting, and a backing held together with stitching.

• EMBELLISHMENTS
Embellishments must stay within the 20-inch size. Items must withstand packing, shipping, and handling many times. Items allowed: beads, ribbon, buttons, charms, etc. Tulle is allowed as long as it does not drastically change the color of the fabric.
NO glitter allowed (comes off and damages other quilts)
NO dangling materials (could get caught and tear)

• ONE ENTRY per person. We collect your contact information and the $30.00 Entry Fee at the time of submission.

• Visible binding must be Cherrywood Fabric. Facing the quilt is acceptable. Backing fabric does NOT have to be Cherrywood.

• DO NOT add a hanging sleeve. It is not necessary in this case, and actually causes problems in our display system.

• Maximum thickness: 1 inch. Three-dimensional quilts that may be crushed or damaged during travel may be disqualified.
