Learn pattern-making in minutes with "The Golden Rule"!

The system is quick and easy to learn—astonishingly simple, you need only two measurements to make a good fitting pattern every time.

The Lutterloh System works by using the included specialty tape measure and small patterns to create custom-fit garment patterns from just two measurements: your bust and hip circumferences.

Choose one pattern page of the 280 patterns from the two-ring binder, specialty tape the miniature pattern to a large sheet of Pattern Making Paper (sold separately), and then use the included tape measure to transfer dots from the pattern to the paper, guided by your measurements.

Finally, you connect the dots, add seam allowances, and cut your fabric, creating a garment with a personalized fit!

The Lutterloh System is the perfect solution for today's busy sewist!

How to use the Lutterloh System

Take your two key measurements:
• Bust: Measure at the fullest part of your bust.
• Hip: Measure over the fullest part of your hips and rear.

Prepare your workspace:
• Tape the chosen miniature pattern to a large sheet of paper. Ensure your paper is large enough for the final pattern, as the system needs to extend beyond the miniature.

Transfer the pattern:
• Place a pin in the "cross" mark on the miniature pattern.
• Use your bust measurement to plot the points for all upper body pieces (like the bodice, collar, and sleeves) by aligning the tape measure's scale with the small dashes on the pattern and marking the numbers.
• Move the pin to your hip measurement to transfer the points for all lower body pieces (like skirts and pants).

Draft the pattern:
• Connect the dots using your pattern's lines as a guide and the Lutterloh Curve Rulers (sold separately) or your own curve rulers.
• Add seam allowance around the completed pattern outline.

Adjust as needed:
• To lengthen, slash the pattern at the desired length and add paper to spread it.
• To shorten, fold the pattern at the desired length without changing the shape.
